As an Internet user and Blogger, there are two things that I dislike when using the Internet and blogging, and these two things have one thing in common: it starts with the word 'Ad'. However, there are clues to these two things: The first one is annoying but useful is generating passive income, while the second one is a killer to one's income, but useful in blocking dangerous web links.
And so, here are the two 'Ads' that I dislike when using the Internet:
'AD' 1: ADVERTISEMENTS
Blogs and many other websites use advertisements in order to generate income, and some of these income generated are used to keep a website online, as the owners need money to pay for their yearly webhosting fee. However, there are some advertisements which can be annoying and sometimes dangerous, as it may lead users to a website that can steal one's identity or install malicious software on one's computer without consent.
There are some websites that use pop-up advertisements, but unfortunately, these are highly annoying, where it can appear suddenly when any Internet user clicks what seems to be an empty space with no web links whatsoever, but the advertisements pop up suddenly without warning.
As an Internet user, I disliked advertisements that are annoying, such as pop-up advertisements; But there are exceptions to this, like ads that are not only non-intrusive, but also legal and safe.
'AD' 2: AD BLOCKERS
Ad blockers are Internet browser extensions/plugins used to block advertisements, particularly, the pop-up kind. There are several types of ad blockers available, such as AdBlock or Adblock Plus. While ad blockers are good in blocking annoying and sometimes dangerous pop-up advertisements, they are also disliked by some bloggers (including me!) and some website owners for one thing: they KILL ONE'S SOURCE OF INCOME.
And so, in order to prevent users from using ad blockers, some website owners would install a script on their websites telling users to disable ad blockers. For example, the website My Anime List has installed a script in place of where the advertisements would be with a random message, telling users to disable ad blocking if they have it enabled. If I remember correctly, one of those messages are, "No one likes ads. We know that. But ads help us pay the bills." Not only that, I have also seen some websites going so far as to block users from accessing their websites if they have ad blockers installed.
As a blogger, I disliked ad blockers just as much as I disliked the annoying pop-up ads, because, like many bloggers would think of, it is one of the main reasons why blog income remains zero; But I have to admit, it is highly useful for blocking annoying and sometimes dangerous ads that can lead me to a malicious website that can either steal my identity or install malicious software without my consent.
CONCLUSION
So, there you have it. The 'Ad & Ad' annoyance as written by me. Need I to say more?
