"RATHER THAN WASTING MILLIONS OF THE PEOPLE'S MONEY TO GIVE TO KOSMO AND UTUSAN, IT MAY BE BEST FOR YOU TO SHUT DOWN IF ALL YOU WANT TO DO IS INSTIGATE THE PEOPLE AND WRITE ARTICLES AKIN TO CHEAP GOSSIP."
HRH Major General Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ismail
On 13th October 2017, the Crown Prince of Johor, HRH Major General Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ismail has criticised KOSMO! newspaper for bashing a joke he made on a video that was said to hurt Malaysian soccer fans, as 'writing news akin to a cheap gossip' (click here).
Honestly, though, I totally agree with His Royal Highness' statement, where he also mentioned on how he avoided local newspapers due to those said newspapers being desperate for popularity and money to the point of writing news akin to a cheap gossip.
As for me, as a battered NEET blogger would think of; other than the 'cheap gossip' news, the other thing that makes KOSMO! newspaper notorious for is the strong unemployment-bashing journalism in some of the crime news, judging by how the journalists write in it. In fact, I also noticed that KOSMO! is the only one that always openly disclose a person's unemployment status without further investigation, when other newspapers don't (sometimes they do, but uncommon). Apparently, this unemployment-bashing journalism practiced by KOSMO! is just a way to sell their newspaper and encourage Malaysians to bash and demonise all the unemployed.
However, before I proceed, I would like to remind that I DON'T SUPPORT ANY KIND OF CRIMINAL ACTIVITY, BUT I STRONGLY LOATHE ANY KIND OF UNEMPLOYMENT SHAMING AND BASHING IN THE MEDIA!
Anyway, here's the first example and proof to my writing:
This similar news article in 12th March issue of Harian Metro newspaper, however, does not disclose the youth's unemployment status. |
Here's the second proof:
Meanwhile, a screenshot of a similar article in Harian Metro (courtesy of PressReader), does not disclose the perpetrator's unemployment status (using search function with F3 button). |
Still, as written in one of my posts here, all newspapers ENJOY showing only the evils of the unemployed. However, of all the newspapers available, KOSMO! newspaper still remains the worst offender of them all.
After all, what do you expect from the most popular Malaysian newspaper? (As of 2016)
CONCLUSION
There's more to this unemployment-bashing journalism by the media, but what I wrote here is just the beginning.
Sure, my writing today will spark the flames of hatred from some people, but get this: there are many Malaysians out there who hate KOSMO! for writing such rubbish news articles, no matter if it's about unemployment bashing or some other stupid stuff!
Want some proof? Please type "boikot kosmo" in Google Search, for example. Enough said.
