Today In History: Harian Metro Newspaper, 5th January 2018 Issue

That's right. If you understand Malay language, this 5th January 2018 (a year ago) article says that, according to Federal Territory Mufti, cosplaying as a deity character is haram (forbidden) in Islam. And guess what? One of those said 'deity' character is HARUHI SUZUMIYA.

In short, cosplaying as Haruhi Suzumiya in Malaysia is now (as of 5th January 2018) declared 'haram' because she is a 'deity' character.

Too bad that they didn't read this TV Tropes page (quote from All There Is to Know About "The Crying Game" part). Turns out that the character Haruhi Suzumiya is not a 'deity', or in this case, not an omnipotent God.

"Even without having ever watched/read/anything Haruhi Suzumiya, thanks to this series' raving fandom, it's pretty well known in anime communities that Haruhi is an omnipotent god. However, this "fact" is actually Fanon, causing this trope to overlap with God Never Said That."
