Making Apfelschorle (Apple Juice Spritzer)

A glass of Apfelschorle with ice.
In this month's blog post, I'm going to show how I made my own Apfelschorle, a simple German soft drink consists of apple juice and carbonated mineral water.

INGREDIENTS

As show in the photo above, these are the two ingredients you need to make Apfelschorle:

  • Apple Juice (Marigold 100% Apple Juice, 1 litre box)
  • Carbonated mineral water (Spritzer Sparkling carbonated mineral water, 1 litre bottle)

INSTRUCTIONS

Making Apfelschorle is pretty simple:

First, fill in half the glass with apple juice. As shown here, I used the frosted part of the drinking glass to measure it.

Next, fill in another half of the glass with carbonated mineral water. You can use a plastic spoon to stir and mix them altogether if you wish.

Finally, add in some ice, and serve.

THE WRITER'S SHORT REVIEW

In terms of taste, the Apfelschorle tasted good. Based on my thoughts, it is best described as a less sweet, no sugar version of F&N's Zappel. However, it costs more to make it. For example, Marigold's 100% Apple Juice costs RM4.91 (bought at 99 Speedmart), while the Spritzer Sparkling carbonated mineral water I bought at Pasaraya Ban Soon (located near KFC), is priced at RM3, which totaled RM7.90 to make it. In contrast, a 1.5-litre F&N Zappel costs between RM2.70 to RM3.50 per bottle. Sure, the Zappel is cheaper, but it maybe too sweet for other's liking.

ADDITONAL NOTES

Based on the ingredients shown earlier, you can make Apfelschorle in a 2-litre jug/pitcher, and you can serve 8 glasses (250ml each) of it. You can also choose add ice into the drink, or refrigerate it without adding any ice.

And that's all there is for me to write about.
