It has been a long time since I went to Manhattan Fish Market, a high-end fast food restaurant franchise originated in Malaysia, specialising in fish & chips. If I can remember correctly, the last time I've had fish & chips there was in 2012 at Queensbay Mall, Pulau Pinang.
And so, four days ago, I decided to go to Manhattan Fish Market restaurant at Alamanda Putrajaya, bringing my mother along, to try their limited time offer called 'Best Deal In Town'. It was available on 7 weekdays from 10th May to 13th May, and 16th May to 18th May.

To move on, upon arriving there as the earliest customers, I ordered two Dory fish & chips, one fried, the other grilled. As for drinks, I choose to order the Melon Breeze mocktail for me, and Peppermint tea for my mother (priced at its normal price, since it is not included in the deal).
Here are two photos of the food and drinks I ordered below:
This is a dory version of Salmon 'n Mash, substituting the Salmon fillet for a Dory fillet (also served using a paper plate instead of a ceramic plate) and a cup of Peppermint tea. |
As mentioned in the captions of the two photos above, the first noticeable differences are the use of paper plates for this serving. The Manhattan Fish 'n Chips would usually be served in a small silver wok along with three small metal bowls, each containing tartar sauce, chilli sauce and chopped garlic; the grilled Salmon 'n Mash, other than being substituted with Dory fillet here, would use a round ceramic plate. The second difference is the mocktail, where it was served in a paper cup instead of a glass.
Although I have to admit that the use of paper plates and the paper cup does affect its appearance and feel, especially for patrons who regularly dine there, I don't think it really affects the taste of the food and drinks, though. The Melon Breeze mocktail tasted cool and refreshing, while the Manhattan Fish 'n Chips tasted delicious.
As always, I loved the taste of the batter-dipped fried fish, combined with the restaurant's special garlic herb sauce and also, tartar sauce. The fries was okay, and so does its salad, drizzled with some vinegar-based dressing
(I don't know what it is, but it is probably vinaigrette). Although excluding the chopped garlic makes it somewhat incomplete, I think it is okay.
I also shared the fish & chips with my mother, and also tried the grilled Dory she had. The taste of the fish and black pepper sauce was okay, although that can't beat the fried one I had. The vegetables was also okay, and the mashed potato served along with it was unique that it has chopped garlic in it (to date, all mashed potatoes I had have no chopped garlic in it).
CONCLUSION
To end it all was the total price for it; A meal for two like above during the promotion costs almost RM29, when on normal days (that is, without the promotion), it would have costed more. In fact, it costs almost RM35 less during the promotion.
Anyway, although the use of paper plates and the paper cup does affect its appearance and feel for patrons who regularly dine there, it doesn't actually affect the taste. Omitting the chopped garlic for the Manhattan Fish 'n Chips sure does make it somewhat incompete, but I think it's okay. I enjoyed the mocktail drink, despite the fact that it didn't come in a glass. I also loved the batter-dipped fried fish with its special garlic herb sauce and tartar sauce, and I am quite surprised by the chopped garlic inside the mashed potato, which I have never had before.
