In this new blog post, I'm going to show how to make Spinach Goma-ae (also spelled 'Gomaae' or 'Gomae'), a Japanese vegetable dish with sesame dressing. However, the difference between the original recipe and mine is the simplicity and improvisation of it.
INGREDIENTS
- Spinach
- KEWPIE Roasted Sesame Dressing
As shown above, all I need is two ingredients to make it. Since the original Goma-ae recipe requires roasted sesame seeds, I decided to improvise it by using KEWPIE Roasted Sesame Dressing for this recipe. Not only that, this Goma-ae is Halal, as there is no mirin or sake used for it.
COOKING INSTRUCTIONS
First, take some spinach and a bowl. Wash the spinach in a bowl of clean, filtered water and let it sit for a while.
Secondly, fill a pot with water and sprinkle in a pinch of salt, and turn on the stove. Once the water has boiled, blanch the spinach for about one minute, then remove the spinach and place it in a strainer.
Next, cool the spinach using running water and drain all the water out. As shown above, this is how it should look like when cooling the spinach.
After cooling and draining the spinach, take a chopping board and place the spinach as shown in the photo above...
...then cut the spinach until it looks like in the photo above.
Now is the time to mix the spinach with the sesame dressing. Place the cut spinach into a bowl and pour some KEWPIE Roasted Sesame Dressing onto it. This dressing is a good choice, since it already have the two required ingredients needed to make the dressing, such as soya sauce and roasted sesame seeds.
Finally, use either a fork, spoon or a pair of kitchen tongs and mix the dressing with the spinach, then serve.
And that's how you make the simplest Spinach Goma-ae ever.
